Uberpay wallet review
- Overview
- Security
- User Experience
Uberpay is a mobile cryptocurrency wallet application currently available only for Android users. This wallet platform offers support for Bitcoin and many other altcoins, but there is a lot of negative feedback around this wallet in Google Play store, users complaining about functionality issues when sending and receiving cryptocurrency and lack of customer support.
UberPay is an open-source wallet platform that lets users swap between Cryptocurrencies instantly. It supports an extensive number of coins. Although the website says that the app is available for iOS and Desktop there is currently only the Android version available for download.
Company / organization behind the wallets
UberPay is developed by a US-based app development company in Florida, called GeoPay.me. According to Crunchbase the founders of GeoPay are John Karantonis (@johnkarantonis - Twitter) and Adonis Velamontes (@geopayme - Twitter). There hasn't been a lot of buzz in the press regarding this wallet and their company blog is rarely updated.
UberPay is focussed on quick efficient transactions times not security. It notable lacks any major security feature. It does offer a master-key in order to regenerate the private keys in case of loss or theft. A server side hot wallet of this nature is not recommended for savings. Also there is a lot of bad feedback about this wallet including lost funds.
Users don't need to be tech-savy in order to use UberPay. The design is very simple and easy to use not having a lot of options to choose from.
Summary:
Due to its support for multiple Cryptocurrency and exchange, there was initially a lot of good feedback about this wallet. Operationally there appear to be a lot of issues with users unable to contact support, reporting a number of issues including loss of funds. Security is weak.
