Airbitz wallet review

Airbitz
Very basic Ease of use,  High Privacy,  User Private Keys Stored

Airbitz wallet platform is a free, open-source mobile Bitcoin wallet app available for download with iOS and Android devices. This lightweight software has a easy-to-use interface and a reliable security background. It's intended for users that want to store Bitcoin using their mobile. Given its intuitive user interface, you don't need advanced computer skills to use this app.

Airbitz has quite some smart functionalities. It supports transfer over Bluetooth, instead of scanning QR codes, multiple accounts and multi device synchronization. It even has a built in calculator and currency converter. They also offer an in-app directory of BTC ATM machines throughout United States.

Company / organization behind the wallets

Airbitz is a small privately held company, headquartered in San Diego, CA founded by Paul Puey, Scott Morgan, Tim Horton, William Swanson, and Damian Cutillo. They had some rounds of seed investment and managed to develop a respectful company. Recently Paul Puey gave an interview on Cointelegraph.com talking about privacy and security concerns regarding Airbitz.

Airbitz has 2 factor authentication, and your private keys are stored locally on your device. They also offer cloud back-up for your private keys and password recovery which suggests they also have access to your account. The strongest point of this wallet is its Edge Security package, which includes Client-Side Encryption, Automatic Back-up and Rollback.

What happens in the event of a disaster/theft/loss?

The user has a 'root key', 'recovery phrase' or 'word seed' that can be used to regenerate private keys, password recovery is available.

Airbitz mobile wallet app is very easy to use after you've logged in. For US-based customers it also has an integrated map directory of Bitcoin ATM's where you can buy BTC. Given the fact that keys are stored in a 3-rd party, we do not recommend storing large amounts of Bitcoin in Airbitz.

Summary:

Airbitz encompasses a lot of privacy options and offers a great mobile experience on an easy-to-use interface for Bitcoin users. This wallet is appropriate for new users that want a fast and easy way to pay with Bitcoin or send BTC to other users. Although private keys are stored on the users device Airbitz seems to have access to them aswell.
